School NutritionEducation and learning depend on good nutrition and health. Nutrition and health powerfully affect how well a child learns in school and at home. Pueblo a Pueblo fights child malnutrition by providing nutritious school lunches every day to hundreds of Guatemalan school children. These lunches help the children to stay healthy, focus better, and stay in school longer. Since 2006, Pueblo a Pueblo has provided hot, wholesome lunches for the 500 Mayan children attending the Panabaj Elementary School. It’s often the only nutritious meal these children eat each day. Recently our program has expanded to the nearby Chacaya school as well. Pueblo a Pueblo’s hot, wholesome lunches for Mayan children aim to:
"Children simply can't concentrate when they're hungry. Our goal is to nourish the children's bodies and their minds, building a stronger foundation for learning and a health start for the future" Food is purchased locally and prepared by local village women, providing good jobs for mothers in these impoverished communities. Our school gardens will supplement this program in years to come with fresh produce grown and harvested by the students at the school. You can help.
