Child Health and Education SponsorshipMost indigenous children in the Santiago Atitlan region never get the chance to finish grade school—only 22% even reach the sixth grade. Those enrolled in school are often hungry or sick, and unable to concentrate and learn. School supplies and access to quality health care are simply not affordable. Girls who attend school at all frequently drop out at very early ages to work or care for younger siblings. Most boys must leave elementary school to work. Generation after generation grows up illiterate and unable to escape a life of poverty. Our individual sponsorships and scholarships make it possible for children to stay in school and succeed. Our Child Health and Education Programs support physical health through nutrition and preventive medical and dental care, and provide children with the resources and supplies they need to attend school. The children in our program receive school supplies, shoes, medical checkups, nutritious meals, and encouragement to learn. You can choose to support a child’s education and health through a direct scholarship, or through sponsorship where you can also exchange letters and photos and even meet your sponsored child if you visit Guatemala. Pueblo a Pueblo works with local school teachers to identify children with the greatest need for sponsorship or an educational scholarship. For only $25 a month—less than $1 a day—the boy or girl you select can start in our program immediately.
