Here at our office in Santiago Atitlan, the Pueblo a Pueblo team is made up of strong, unique, and empowered women. In honor of Women’s History Month, we asked some of our staff members: “To you, what does it mean to be a woman?”. Here are their responses.

To be a woman means: life, love, dreams, art in its whole radiance, and beauty with all its brightness.

- Rebeca Sosof, Maternal Child Health Program Assistant

Being a woman is a core part of my identity; it is a part of myself that I am immensely proud of, yet that challenges me and pushes me on a daily basis.  We, as women, are in a unique position where our lived realities and society’s expectations of us are too often dichotomous and unjust.  Being a woman is an immensely multifaceted, complicated, defiant, beautiful, overwhelming, and exceptional experience.  I am a strong, caring, and intelligent woman and many people have shaped me; but it is the inspiring and extraordinary women throughout my life who have truly molded me into who I am today.

For me, to be a woman is smiling before the challenges and obstacles of life, delicacy and strength together.

- Johanny Quieju, Primary Education Scholarships Project Manager

Being a woman is appreciating other women for who they are and celebrating them for their own choices, mistakes, and triumphs. It's acknowledging everyone has their own path, struggles and finding a way to support and find support.

- Ana Cabrera, Organic School Gardens, School Nutrition, and Beekeeping Project Manager

For me to be a woman is: beauty, delicacy, and life.

- Vilma Mendoza, Maternal Child Health Project Manager

To be a woman is to remember the strength, resiliency, and struggles of women before us, and to continue moving forward despite challenges we face. It is know and make known that our experiences and perspectives are essential to progress.

.
