In May we were visited by a group of youths from the communities of Guineales and Xojola. They were here for the first training on how to implement an organic school garden. In the training, youths were taught about organic gardening and agriculture and learned how to start and include the community in the implementation of a school garden. All of the youths finished the training in Santiago with the abilities and knowledge needed to lead and implement a school garden in their communities.

This experience excites us for two reasons. The first is that this training represents a new way of empowering youths to take on leadership roles in their communities and it was very successful. The second reason is that we are expanding our project to new communities, which are further away from the majority of our current project sites.

We are proud of our youth leaders and know that their passion and interest in organic gardening will be a great resource for their communities.
