Global partnerships support initiatives like our Youth Leadership (YL) Project
The Pueblo a Pueblo office and communities we work with are nestled among large volcanoes alongside Lake Atitlan. At first glance, this rural region may seem disconnected from the world, but the physical barriers between Atitlan and and the rest of the world haven’t impeded us from engaging in global partnerships.

For example, we’ve recently partnered with the Australian packaging company Detmold Group/Detpak. They heard about the innovative work we are doing to improve the lives of coffee farmers and their communities in the Western Highlands of Guatemala. The company has launched a line of hot cups called “Coffee Origins.” The line is a celebration of coffee and traditional art from coffee yielding regions including Guatemala. Through this partnership, 5% of all proceeds from their Coffee Origins line sales will go to support Pueblo a Pueblo’s programs.

A few thousand miles north of Australia, Pueblo a Pueblo has received exposure on the Jupiter Shopping Channel in Japan. Kristen VanZandt designs the US-based fashion line Vida Dulce, which was featured on the network. The Vida Dulce debut on JSC was also a shout out to the work Pueblo a Pueblo does in Guatemala- the country where Kristen sources materials for her fashion line.

The international connections don't end there. Pueblo a Pueblo is also working with the Guatemala Families Association in England. The GFA is an organization of families that have adopted children from Guatemala. Visitors from  GFA often come to Santiago Atitlan to visit our programs they have supported and observe our beneficiary schools.

The work we do in rural Guatemala has gained global attention and support. So, from our office in Santiago, Atitlan to our supporters and partners worldwide, THANK YOU!

WASH Team loaded and delivered 6,930 Colgate Oral Hygiene kits
In the early Santiago morning, The Pueblo a Pueblo Water and Sanitation Hygiene (WASH) In Schools Project team filled a pickup truck to the brim with boxes of carefully counted oral hygiene kits. Each contained a toothbrush,  Colgate toothpaste and an interactive brushing calendar to promote healthy habits. In total 6,930 students from 56 schools within two municipalities received a kit.

This was the second year Pueblo a Pueblo and Colgate were partnering for the “Brilliant Smiles, Brilliant Futures” campaign. The partnership promotes personal hygiene as a tool for academic, personal and social success.

“When a kid feels confident in her autonomy and practices it through oral hygiene upkeep, she feels more empowered to have autonomy over other aspects of her life, including academics,” says Carlos Soberanis, the Colgate representative.

Soberanis led a workshop for directors from our beneficiary schools, offering tips to use in schools to encourage good hygiene. The directors could then take the tips they learned and the kits back to their schools. Soberanis also demonstrated proper brushing techniques and explained the health consequences of not establishing an oral hygiene routine at a young age.

“It’s important to collaborate with the directors of the schools because they have authority to encourage the implementation of what they learn at the workshop,” says Pablo Eulogio, the Pueblo a Pueblo WASH Project Coordinator.

The Colgate and Pueblo a Pueblo partnership aligns with our WASH mission because it recognizes and reinforces the relationship between preventative health, hygiene and the success of our students.
